Our Presidential House for 2017 is Pommery. The Champagne Academy is delighted to be working with this prestigious House and looking forward to great events and fine Grande Marque Champagne.
Below is a Press Release:
The Champagne Academy which, for over sixty years, has educated hundreds of UK wine trade professionals across the UK and Ireland, is a unique collaboration between sixteen Grande Marques Champagnes. The Presidency of the Academy rotates annually between the sixteen Houses. This year the Presidential House is Champagne Pommery, supported by the in-coming and out-going Vice Presidential Houses of Louis Roederer and Pol Roger.
Sara Hicks, UK Director Champagne Pommery said “Champagne Pommery is looking forward to its Presidency. Our first task, along with representatives of the Academy and other Houses, is the selection of this year’s sixteen candidates, all of whom have been personally nominated or have applied via the Academy website www.champagneacademy.co.uk. I would encourage any young champagne enthusiasts from the wine or hospitality trades to seize this extraordinary opportunity to immerse themselves in all things Champagne, as well as build networks and friendships that will last a lifetime.”
During the course candidates learn about all aspects of Champagne, through visits to the different Houses, in the classroom and of course, very extensive Champagne tasting. The week long course in the Champagne region, includes daily tests and a final exam. Only those making the grade will be awarded the prestigious Champagne Academy Diploma and invited to join The Champagne Academy. The candidate scoring the highest course mark is awarded sixteen magnums, one from each of the Academy Houses.
Incoming Champagne Academy Chairman, Kevin Skeet, adds “I am absolutely delighted to work with Champagne Pommery as Presidential House, along with the in-coming and out-going Vice Presidential Houses Louis Roederer and Pol Roger. It was the passion for champagne, education and life in general shown by Pommery’s Sara Hicks that inspired me to commit my time to the Academy, so I am looking forward to my year as Chair in Pommery’s Presidential year”.
Pommery remains one of the great family-run Grand Marque Champagne Houses and represents elegance and refined luxury with an unwavering commitment to excellence. Pommery is available predominantly in hotels and restaurants in the UK but also on Ocado.com.
